This is where I get to ramble when I feel like it. Kind of like a blog, but it's not a blog. This is a blog. ;-).

Dreamweaver MX 2004: The Complete Reference

Tuesday, January 20, 2004 3:51:12 PM

Shameless plug: I just got my copy of Dreamweaver MX 2004: The Complete Reference, and I have to say it's the best edition yet. We added quite a bit to this edition to make it a worthwhile addition to your library even if you already have the other editions. The sample site has been expanded greatly and new chapters have been added on Contribute and Homesite integration, CSS vs. table design, and more. Available at Amazon now, and bookstores everywhere.

Updated help extension for Dreamweaver

Friday, January 16, 2004 9:21:32 AM

Not Flash-related, but if you write ColdFusion code using Dreamweaver, this item may interest you. I've updated one of my most popular Dreamweaver extensions -- the Context Help toolbar. The reason I built the extension was because of the horrible built-in Help system in Dreamweaver. The little reference panel has almost no redeeming value -- you can't copy/paste from it, the lettering is too small, and the text wrap is inconsistent. Some content will wrap, and other content will expand beyond the window. I've always been a fan of the CF Studio help system, so I built the Context Help extension to work similarly. Basically, while you are editing ColdFusion code (or PHP, ASP, etc), you can put your cursor on a keyword or CF tag and click the button or choose Context Help from the right-click menu. The help file from Livedocs will open up in a browser. More info here: http://www.dwteam.com/tutorials/contexthelp/index.asp

For those of you who would rather use your local CF server help files, you can modify one line in the XML file that drives the extension. Information here: http://www.dwteam.com/tutorials/contexthelpext/

Next on my agenda is adding ActionScript help to the extension.

Great news for FR

Friday, January 09, 2004 9:51:20 AM

Great news on the Flash Remoting front -- Macromedia has committed to incorporating Flash Remoting into their new product Flex. More information can be found on Christophe Coenraets' blog here: http://www.markme.com/cc/archives/004130.cfm. This is partly due to the feedback that MM is receiving about Flash Remoting. Many of us already know that FR is a great technology for communicating between Flash and a server, but now we are getting some support from MM as well. Thanks for listening MM!
